The Great Plastic Challenge

Eliminating plastic from our lives...one week at a time.

Are you still trying to eliminate a plastic item per week? Are you having probems in any particular area? Just wanted to check in.

I'm sad because I'm about to give up most of my cheese consumption in the next week or so, when my current cheese stash is gone, because I can't find plastic-free cheese that's also organic and local and derived from happy cows. Notice I said "most." That means I'm not going to buy anymore blocks of cheese myself. But I might indulge now and then in a slice of pizza or a quesadilla while I'm out in the world. Not often. But if I go cold turkey, I don't think I can last.

Thanks for asking! :) I still need to check back to this site regularly so that I remind myself to do the things that I really want to do. I am not quite up to speed on dropping one plastic thing a week. Darn these hectic lives we lead! :D

I am about to run down to the store to get fixin's to try the homemade yogurt recipe that you commented with on my blog post. No time like the present!

Don't give up cheese... you should make your own! :) If you have access to non ultra-pasteurized milk that you are happy with it is not that hard (so I understand, I haven't actually made any yet).
I got a mozzarella kit from The Cheese Queen. :) I am looking forward to eating some tasty results! :P

Barbara Kingsolver has a great bit about her in Animal Vegetable Miracle too.
