I seem to have enough on my plate right now and yet here I am jumping into another challenge. Admittedly, this is something that's been on my list for a while. My girls, now 19 and 22, grew up re-cycling and composting. They complained from time-to-time when they were young and it's funny now to hear them complain that so many people they meet now don't re-cycle or compost.
Long ago I switched to bringing my own bag when I shopped for groceries; I carry a travel mug for coffee; I take my own take-home container to restaurants; I try to re-use as much as I can - but a few weeks ago when I read about the growing garbage patch in the North Pacific gyre I decided it was time to make more effort to reduce the waste I add to the world.
During the next few weeks I'm going to do an inventory of sorts. Look at my shopping habits, my purchases and determine what I can reduce or eliminate. Look around at what others are doing to get ideas and develop awareness. And then, before the end of this year, develop a plan to follow during 2008.
